It was so exciting to have the opportunity to have Mike Artell visit our school! Mike is an author, illustrator, and musician from New Orleans. He shared some of his books, including Petite Rouge, with the students and showed them how to draw several different things. I think they were most excited about the drawing lessons! Thank you to our PTA for sponsoring this great opportunity for the students!

White House Glogs
Mrs. Badgett's third graders worked with me in the media center to brainstorm their own questions about the White House and then use the Big 6 research process to find the answers. We then learned how to create Glogs to present the information and I think the kids had a blast! They really took off with the Glogs and you can see the different personalities shine through. They had creative control as long as they answered their questions and cited their sources on the Glog. There are some examples of the Glogs here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here and some pictures are below.

2011 Literacy Day
On March 2, 2011, we celebrated Literacy Day at Caleb's Creek by dressing up as our favorite book characters and decorating our classroom doors! We even had lots of Mystery Readers come throughout the day to read to different classrooms and upper grade students partnered with lower grade student reading buddies! It was a lot of fun helping the older kids pick out books to read with the younger ones.
Mrs. DuBois and Mrs. Martin as Elephant and Piggie
The office staff covered all the main characters from Wizard of Oz!
We always knew the fourth grade teachers were sweet!
M & M's for Chocolate Touch
The door decorations were great this year too! The staff is so good at coming up with creative ways to represent the books without breaking copyright laws by using the characters. They use themes, student writings, purchased book jackets, and more to create such wonderful works of art!
