'News' About the Smokies

Researching with the livebinder
A 4th grade class is reading The Egypt Game, set in the Smoky Mountains, so we did a quick project on the Smokies with them. They used my livebinder to locate a topic that interested them and researched that topic. After research, they had to create a newscast script and practice it with a partner. The kids taped each other and came up with their newscast on different aspects of the Smokies. They love taping each other and having an end project like this made them have to really understand their topic so they could talk about it. I love projects that give kids some understanding of real life possible applications for learning how to do things!

What fun projects do you use to get students interested in learning?

  1. I love your blog. Great way to incorporate technology with library research. I was wondering - is this in collaboration with the classroom teacher or is the research on the Smoky mountains your own project? Also - is Livebinders available outside the library as well. I've never used it with a clss yet but it looks great.

    1. Thank you for your comment! I am so glad it is a helpful blog to you and it is nice to hear from people who read it. This project was in collaboration with a teacher. Most of my projects are in collaboration with teachers, a few are just projects I do in media specials, but even during that time, I try to collaborate if I can.

Livebinders is available to anyone and is free. You can go to livebinders.com and create an account to make your own if you want or you can use other people's binders with or without an account. If you have an account you can 'save' other peoples binders to come back to more easily. I am always adding more binders to my shelf, so feel free to use any of them! Here is the link to my whole shelf if you are interested: http://www.livebinders.com/shelf/search_author?terms=hdubois

Let me know if you have any other questions or suggestions of things you would like to see on the blog!
